Meeting Annie Sloan Road Trip
(part two)

Not the best picture...had to use my phone since I forgot my camera!

As I mentioned in PART ONE, my friend Kim Crisp won two tickets to the Nashville stop of the Annie Sloan Unfolded tour
and she invited ME to go with her!!!

Anytime we go somewhere together it turns into a buying trip. We GOOGLE the area for:

 * Antique Stores
* Thrift Stores
*Flea Markets

DON'T MOST PEOPLE?

Here's how we started out ..."we'll leave Sunday afternoon, spend the night, go to the workshop the next day then drive home that night".

Yea right!

Here's how it really went down:
Left Pelham Sunday morning

talk~talk~talk~talk

Crossed the Tennessee line

 Are you hungry

yes but don't want to waste time stopping to eat

See a SONIC sign

Got off at Exit 1 Ardmore, TN

Cross back into Alabama

Found the Sonic
In awe at how thoughtful someone was to leave us a toothbrush

Cross back into Tennessee

See DOG DAYS Flea Market sign

~DETOUR~

OK... now according to Mr. EA, who was tracking us on his iPad using Find My Phone,
we were in Junkyard, TN even though the sign said Ardmore, TN
...he might have been making that up! ;-)

Kim buys several wooden window mullions

Elizabeth buys an ironstone pitcher

~Oh, but the sights we saw~
cribbed from Kim's facebook

Elizabeth gets a text from Mr. EA...WHERE ARE Y'ALL?

Elizabeth calls him...

a truck loaded with crowing roosters goes by as he answers the phone

he starts cracking up

Mr. EA pleas with us to get back on the road

Back on I-65

Mr. EA text

"Glad you have my NEW CAR out of deliverance country"
(so much for thinking he was concerned about our safety!)

Kim text back "come to think of it we did hear some banjo music"

(I have to interject right here...Kim and I never felt unsafe while we were there.
Actually the people couldn't have been nicer!)

Driving and Talking

Driving and Talking

FRANKLIN, TN !!!!

Encore Resales.

Elizabeth bought
The great architectural column standing behind the plant.
The ironstone pitcher on the buffet is the one I bought at the flea market.

Antique stores close

Find hotel and check in

Eat dinner

Get settled in our room

Have trouble falling asleep too excited about tomorrow!

~DAY TWO~

Met Annie Sloan
Go here to read about how wonderful that was!!

Changed to a different hotel in Brentwood, TN

Ate dinner

Back to room

Back out to Cold Stone Creamery

Back to room

Made a plan for tomorrow

I'll finish up about the ROAD TRIP on my next post.

Elizabeth Ann

Meeting Annie Sloan Road Trip
(part one)
My first chalk paint project
I remember about a year or so ago when my friend, Lana, first told me about chalk paint.  She said she read about it on a blog and there's no need to sand or prime!  I have to admit my first thought was "Lana, we've heard of chalk paint before what's the big deal?".....
Oh, chalk paint
not chalkboard paint
I finally got on line and ordered some.
I've never looked back!

Then to make life BETTER a stockist opened in my city!!!!!

Kim Crisp ~ Stacey Christensen ~ Me
Oh it got even BETTER!
My friend Kim entered a contest that Stacey was holding for two tickets to the Annie Sloan Unfolded tour at the Nashville, TN location.
Y'all Kim won and she invited ME to go with her!!!!!
Oh what a lucky girl I am.
(By the way, those tickets cost $350 each.)
So right here right now I must give another great big
THANK YOU !!
to Kim for inviting me and to Stacey for holding the contest.

Kim and I were so excited to meet Annie.
(yes, first name basis now. ha ha)

We got to spend two hours with her, she did a few demonstrations, answered questions and gave us the scoop about a new book in the works.  She told us about how and why she created Chalk Paint, and how it got started here in the U.S.  By the way, what we buy in the U.S. is made in the United States.  She also explained how stockist are chosen and why she will never sell her paint in a big box store.

Later we moved into workshops.
These goodies were waiting at our seats for us.

We were really excited to see these aprons draped over our chairs.

We painted and learned some new techniques. Annie came in and told us about a new line of fabric she is introducing.  It was chosen to coordinate with her paints!  She also answered more of our questions.  We were able to hold and feel the new brush that will be available in about two weeks.

Stacey and Annie's husband David
Following the workshop there was a reception and autograph signing.

When it was my turn, Annie asked "and who is this for"
I replied "Elizabeth Ann".
Her response was "that's my name".
We even spell it the same!!!!

I love that she signed Elizabeth Ann under Annie Sloan.

Kim and I had a great time meeting Annie Sloan but remember
the title of this post said ROAD TRIP.
Oh yes there's more to share but I'll do that on my next post.
Let's just say we did a little "Picking" in Tennessee.

One more thing, almost all the pictures in this post were taken by Kim.
Someone forgot her camera!!!

Joyfully,
Elizabeth Ann

LET'S START OVER

Hi my name is Elizabeth Ann

Maybe some of you remember me, I'm the crazy women that says she wants a blog but then abandons it for almost a year, decides she'll help start and maintain a blog for Encore Resales, gets the bug to start her original blog back up, and now she has to keep up with TWO blogs!!!

So I gave my blog a little bit of a face lift and here I am.

I still have my booth at Encore Resales and I LOVE it!

My style is still all over the place....my header pretty much sums it up....

SHABBY ~ VINTAGE ~ RUSTIC ~ INDUSTRIAL~ANTIQUE & more

I guess that makes my style..

Eclectic (Ĭ-klÄ›k´-tÄ«k) adj.
                                           1. selecting or choosing from various sources.
                                           2. made up of what is selected from different sources.

But you know...it seems to work!
{click here to go to the Encore Resales Blog}
Now back to what started, um re-started, all of this.
The vendors at Encore have started a blog and on our blog we’re going to highlight items in the store, introduce you to our booths and try to get to know you, the customer! Because Encore is a place you can find brand new merchandise, antiques and everything in between we also want to give you ideas of how all of that can work together in your home.
I hope you will pop over to Encore Resales blog.  If you are local or traveling to the area drop by the store, I think you will like what you see.

Elizabeth Ann

P.S.......

Boy do I wish I had gotten a hair cut before this trip!
I can't wait to tell you about my trip to Nashville to meet and learn from this lady!

The Big 50!

Well I had to change my profile info.

Now that I'm no longer in the 40 something age group.
This past Wednesday I entered the 50 year old crowd.
Does it bother me that I'm now a half a century old?
NOT ONE BIT!
I'm a firm believer that we are only "old" if we let ourselves be OLD.

Thanks to some friends who let us use their lake home.  I've spent my birthday week looking at this view.

(June is a big month for me, on June 28 I'll be celebrating 31 years of marriage to Mr. EA.)
With my two favorite people in the whole world...

and the sweetest grand-dog ever!

More of my family and friends have been in and out but mostly just us four, swimming, sunning and just hanging out.

BLISS!!

Joyfully,

Elizabeth Ann

Thank You!
To Penny at

Penny @ Comforts of Home / Lavender Hill Studio  said...
When you sign in to Google, uncheck the box that says "keep me signed in". That should work so you can leave comments. It worked for me and others I know. Let me know if it works for you.

Penny

Thank you so much Penny, it worked.
I can leave comments now!

I still can't see my followers and I have a few new ones.  As soon as I can see who they are I'll be visiting your blog and sending a great big thank you.

Getting back to Joyfully,
Elizabeth Ann
Now I'm off to look around Penny's blogs.

Blogger is driving me CRAZY!!!

I can't leave comments and I can't see my followers.  It seems to be coming and going.  Some days I can do one or the other and I think I have been able to do both only once in the last couple of weeks.

I'm generally a pretty patient person but this is ridiculous!

I've tried commenting on several blogs but just can't.
I'm not being a snob I promise.
Is it something I'm doing or need to do?
Is anyone else having this problem?
Well if you were I guess you couldn't tell me could you?!!

I do want to say to Kelli at Restore Interiors that I am praying for her whole family and I hope her daughter is better very soon.

Well I'm done ranting and I'm hoping for a solution soon.

Joyfully, (truthfully Aggravated)

"Ammo Basket" Inspired

I've always liked the European Ammo Baskets and I'm still searching for one to use in my home.

Some of you may remember I have a "thing for baskets".  Go here and let me know if it's a sickness or just a "thing".

This is where I got my inspiration...

and here's my version.
I know it doesn't even come close to looking
like the original but it's the idea.

(Of course I had already started painting it when I remembered to take a before picture.)
It started out as an ordinary wicker hamper.

Which I dry brushed with dark gray paint then a much lighter gray paint.
After all that dried I did a white wash over the whole thing.

Once the white wash was dry I painted on the numbers.
Why 18?  No idea it just seemed to look good together.
Then I sanded over the whole basket and even scraped a little paint off the numbers.
Trying to give it an aged and used look.
I felt like it needed more aging so I used some dark wax all over and added a little extra in places.

I like it and even Tyson my sweet grand-dog
seems to likes it!

Joyfully,
Elizabeth Ann
